Biomaterials Science
The Department of Biomaterials Science provides education in the field of dental and medical biomaterials for undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Turku in DDS, MD, MSc and PhD programs.
Dental science and clinical practice is strongly based on the use of biomaterials in oral rehabilitation. Department of Biomaterials Science is providing the most recent and advanced knowledge of biomaterials for the use of dental students and graduated dentists. Medical biomaterial education is given in collaboration with the departments at the Faculty of Medicine.
Department of Biomaterial Science has internationally active research profile. It coordinates research projects by European Comission, Academy of Finland, TEKES, and industry supported projects. BioCity Turku Biomaterials Research program (www.biomaterials.utu.fi) is directed by the Department. Core-facility laboratory Turku Clinical Biomaterial Centre – TCBC for the program belongs to the Institute of Dentistry and it is located in the PharmaCity building.
